This Company Has Paid A Dividend For 118 Years And Increased It The Last 50 Years

In 1806, William, a soap and candle maker, opened up a starch, soap and candle factory on Dutch Street in New York City. William in 1833 suffered a severe heart attack stopping his business from selling. But after a couple of years of recovery he continued with his business. In the 1840s, the firm began selling individual cakes of soap in uniform weights.
William died inn 1857 and the company was reorganized under the management of his son Samuel. At the time, Samuel did not want to continue the business but thought it would be the right thing to do.

In 1872, the company introduced Cashmere Bouquet, a perfumed soap. In 1873, the firm introduced its first toothpaste, an aromatic toothpaste sold in jars. The company sold the first toothpaste in a tube in 1896. By 1908 they initiated mass selling of toothpaste in tubes.

March 7th the company approved a two-for-one split and increased its quarterly dividend 10% to $0.68 per share on a pre-split basis. The dividend is payable May 15, 2013 to shareholders of record as of April 23, 2013. The yield based on the new payout is 2.4%.
