5 Dividend Stocks In Need Of A Market Correction

We have all heard that trees don't grow to the sky, but that seems to be what is happening in this bull market that started back in early 2009. When investors see their portfolio dramatically increase in value, it leaves them with a sense of accomplishment. However, if you are an investor in dividend growth stocks, a higher portfolio may not be in your best interest.

12 Stocks Avoiding A December Freeze With Increased Dividends

For a dividend investor, there is not much worse than a stock that cuts or eliminates its dividend. Suddenly, the reason you purchased the stock no longer exists. Many dividend investors, myself included, have a hard and fast rule to immediately sell any stock held as income investment if it cuts its dividend. However, when a company freezes its dividend at the current rate, the decision is not as clear-cut. At this point you must look at alternative investments, along with the company’s current yield and future outlook.

Here are a few select companies that have avoided a December freeze by increasing the cash dividends paid to their shareholders:

How To Buy Dividend Stocks At The Bottom

Everyone loves a deal and loves getting something at a rock bottom price. Dividend investors are no different. However, as long-term buy-and-hold investors, we aren't known for our ability (or desire) to time the market and call the bottom. That's not to say we can't enjoy the benefits of buying at the bottom. So, how does a long-term buy-and-hold investor accomplish this?

November 2015 Progress Report

Once again it is time for a goals/progress update. I am pleased to report that annualized dividend income increased in September, extending the streak to 38 consecutive months of increases. As noted in the June 19, 2015 post, in July 2015 I changed to reporting on total dividend income instead of just income from my Dividend Growth Portfolio.

Since I began tracking my total income progress, annualized dividend income has increased in 38 of the last 38 months.

7 Companies Sending Shareholders More Cash With Increased Dividends

In the U.S. and Canada, most companies pay dividends quarterly. In other parts of the world, it is not uncommon for companies to pay an annual or a semi-annual dividend. That is not to say that North American companies sometimes choose not to pay quarterly dividends. For many years McDonald’s (MCD) paid an annual dividend. Walt Disney Co. (DIS) paid an annual dividend through 2014 and in July 2015 started paying a semi-annual dividend. Going in the other direction, Realty Income Corp. (O) pays a monthly dividend.

Though I prefer quarterly dividends, there is something more important than frequency -- dividend increases. Below are several companies satisfying their shareholders desire for more cash by increasing their dividends...

8 Stocks Providing An Inflation Hedge With Increasing Dividends

With all the other investment strategies out there, why should investors consider dividend or income investing? There are a multitude of reasons to follow a dividend growth strategy. But for me the most important reason is the inflation hedge that a growing income will provide in my retirement years.

12 Stocks Raising Expectations and Dividends

Have you ever pondered the concept of forever or infinity? It is truly mind boggling! What is even more astonishing is that when I buy a stock, my target holding period is forever. For most people, myself included, that is hard to grasp and to carry out. When things start going bad, our primal instinct of flight kicks in and we want to sell. In many cases, that is the time we should be buying. Holding a stock through an economic downturn is much easier when it pays a rising dividend.

Below are several companies giving their shareholders a reason not to sell by increasing their cash dividends...

10 Stocks Building Superior Long-Term Returns With Increased Dividends

Ned Davis Research examined the relative performances of stocks between 1972 and 2006 and established a link between rising dividends and superior long-term returns. The study found S&P 500 stocks that consistently increased their dividends returned 10.4% total return (dividends + share price appreciation), while those that did not increase their dividends returned only 8.2%. The 2.2% advantage of the dividend raisers would equate to an additional $1,802 per $100 invested in 1972.

Below are several companies looking to follow the path of superior long-term returns by increasing their cash dividends:

8 Dividend Stocks With A Quick Payback

Payback is the amount of time needed for an investment to earn its cost, undiscounted. For example, if you buy a dividend stock for $100 that pays a $5 annual dividend, the payback is 20 years (100/5). Though not very sophisticated, payback can still help you screen for good, solid dividend growth stocks.
